The Odysseus Group, a 501(c) 3, seeks tax-deductible contributions in order to build a library and retreat center for the use of parents, whole families, individuals, and local groups from anywhere who are interested in reflecting among themselves on the topic of school reform. Without providing direction, we hope to offer a secluded venue among natural surroundings, together with some simple amenities, as a setting for good work far from distractions. To this end we have acquired an option on 128 acres of wooded and open land in upstate New York, rich in wildlife with a structurally sound old barn, suitable for conversion into a place for reading and research. Together with necessary wells, septic tanks, and cabins, the Library and Retreat Center is estimated to require $250,000 to complete.
The Odysseus Group is producing a Documentary Film: now reads:
THE FOURTH PURPOSE: The Deadly Paradox of American Public Schooling, this film is projected as a 12-16 hour documentary for television and home video, comparable to PBS's "The Civil War." It is scheduled to begin shooting in late fall of 2001, finances permitting.
